Lighting - Street Lights

The borough of Blaenau Gwent contains over 13,000 street lamps, 3500 of which are remotely accessed in the street lighting office. All lamps are regularly checked by nights patrols every 2 weeks, but reports by members of the public are greatly appreciated, as the sooner we are aware of faults, the sooner we can assess and repair them. Problems that can occur due to the lack of light include;

  • Increased risk of anti-social behaviour
  • Increased rate of crime in darkspots
  • Risk of falls and injury, especially for the elderly and disabled
  • Wasted energy if lamps are burning 24 hours

These reasons show why reporting any fault is important. Many different reasons can cause damage or interruptions to the service, and this why repairs can sometimes take longer.  For routine repairs the timescale is 4 working days after the day the fault is reported. All you need to report the fault is the lamp ID, which is printed vertically on the lamp itself (eg. BH1654).

To report faults either call C2BG Contact Centre on (01495) 311556, or use the link on the right hand side of this screen to email.
