Kerbcraft Road Safety Training Scheme
Kerbcraft has now been running successfully in 9 Blaenau Gwent schools since September 2002 and is currently in its 4th academic training year.
The scheme runs for approximately 18 weeks and teaches practical road safety skills at the roadside to raise children’s awareness of traffic.
Parent volunteers and some classroom assistants are trained by the Authority's Child Pedestrian Training Co-ordinator, and work with small groups of children and help them to develop their observational skills and decision-making processes.
The scheme is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government.
Volunteers Needed
We are constantly looking for volunteers to help train the children at the roadside, if you can spare no more than 2 hours a week to help at one of the schools listed below or if you want to know more about the scheme, please contact the Child Pedestrian Training Co-ordinator on 01495 355409. All volunteers are subject to an enhanced police criminal record check prior to training.

Teaches children about the dangers of crossing near parked cars and teaches them to look for clues to determine if any of the vehicles will move prior to crossing.
3. Crossing Safely at Junctions
Teaches children to cross safely near junctions, teaching them about where traffic comes from and goes to and also teaches them a special looking strategy so that they don’t forget to look down any of the roads.

Parents are reminded that Kerbcraft is part of a long-term road safety project and that children should always be accompanied by an adult when walking near or crossing a road. |
