Community Chest Scheme

Groups in Blaenau Gwent can get additional funding through the Sports Council of Wales’ Community Chest Scheme.

The Community Chest scheme is now looking at new areas of work such as the voluntary sector (e.g. Voluntary Youth Clubs, Women’s Institute) and the workplace, as well as continuing to support projects in the health and sporting arenas. 

Over £234,000 worth of small grants has been injected into community projects in Blaenau Gwent alone over the last six years. From wheelchair tennis to belly dancing, groups have been given the funding needed to improve opportunities for their local communities.

The maximum grant available is £750 and can be used to support projects such as walking or cycling schemes, projects that encourage employees to become more physically active or those that encourage physical activity in the natural environment. The local Community Chest Panel meets every two months to consider applications for funding.
