Recruitment Drive For Foster Carers

15 March 2006

Blaenau Gwent Council is actively seeking to recruit foster carers who can offer a safe and secure home to vulnerable children and young people who cannot live with their own families.

As part of its recruitment strategy, Social Services is running an advertising campaign in conjunction with Stagecoach buses. The adverts are on the sides of buses running through Blaenau Gwent.

Foster carers are needed from a variety of backgrounds to ensure children do not have to move away from their local community if they are unable to live at home.

Applications will be considered from couples and single people, with or without children of their own and in employment or unemployed. High levels of support and training opportunities are provided for all approved foster carers.

Councillor Jim McIlwee, Executive Member for Health and Wellbeing – Social Care, said: “The council sees our foster carers as valuable members of the team who are working to help children achieve their full potential. All foster carers provide invaluable support to children who cannot live at home and are a crucial part of our service. The advertising campaign on the buses, enable us to reach a wider audience, hopefully persuading more people to find out more about becoming foster carers and offering much needed support to so many children.”
