  • Do you want a say in how your estate is managed?
  • Do you want to be consulted on how the Housing Service is delivered and be involved in the direction of future housing policy?

Why not be part of a Tenants Association??

By forming a Tenants Association for your estate you can make your voice heard in decisions that affect your home and by working with the Council make a difference for your estate.

Most areas of Blaenau Gwent are covered by Tenants' and Residents' Associations. They are known as TARAs. These are organisations set up and run by tenants and residents to represent the views of people living in an area to the council and other organistaions. They hold regular meetings  to discuss problems and ideas that affect tenants and to help inform people of all the issues that affect them.  They often hold social events, which can be a good way of getting to know your neighbours and other people in the community.

These organisations help provide a local connection between residentas and the Housing Services Department.

We will formally recognise a  TARA  that meet the following conditions:

  • The TARA represents a defined area which is made up of 90% Council housing and that all tenants and residents living within the defined area can join the association.
  • The association has a set of rules (called a constitution) in line with the model constitution that we recognise.
  •  The Chairperson or Vice Chairperson of the TARA is a tenant.

For recognised Tenants' and Residents' Associations we will provide:

  • Annual Funding
  • Opportunities for representatives to join the Tenant Compact Group
  • TARA’s with a commitment that wherever possible, we will consult with them on matters affecting the local community.

You can request a full list of recognised Tenants' and Residents' Associations in Blaenau Gwent by contacting the Tenant Participation Officer.
