The Welfare to Work Department, based in Abertillery, is a satellite venue of the Business Resource Centre. From this location both New Deal for Disabled People and Work Preparation programmes are run.
New Deal for Disabled People
The Welfare to Work Department is a broker for the Jobcentre Plus NDDP programme.
This is a provision for those who receive disability or health related benefits but would like to work. Interested clients are met and offered a network of support. This includes discovering what kind of work they are interested in and also the training or additional support they may need to achieve this.
This is a flexible voluntary programme that does not affect your benefits. You may also be entitled to expenses for taking part in NDDP.
The provision focuses on the individual and services are tailored to ensure that each client receives the most appropriate package.

This is only a small selection of the training on offer, additional courses can be arranged to meet individuals needs.
NDDP Placements
The chance to undertake a work placement may also be offered as part of NDDP. This allows clients to test their skills and get a feel for a specific occupation. Placements can be arranged to suit, but are only organised when a client feels confident enough to partake in it.

Work Preparation Programme
This is a Jobcentre Plus initiative for those who are claiming incapacity benefit.
It is a 30 day work placement programme which has been specially developed for people who have been out of work for a long period of time, due to illness or disability, but are looking to return to employment.
Referrals must be made by a Jobcentre Plus Disability Employment Advisor (DEA)
The Welfare to Work Department offers a variety of placements that will help people build their confidence, examine their skills and see what kind of work suits them.
Placements are currently being used in the following areas:
Care Retail Hospitality Manufacturing Information Technology Education Construction Motor Vehicle Business Administration
This is only a selection of the placements on offer,additional placements can be sourced to meet client's specifications.
The placement allows people to ascertain if they really are ready to return to work.
If at any time during the 30 week Work Preparation programme a person feels it is affecting their disability they are under is no obligation to carry on.
