There is a car in my street that the Council placed a legal notice on two months ago, but it is still there?
If an owner claims a vehicle the Council cannot remove it. If the vehcile is untaxed you can report this to the dvla.
There are children playing in a burnt out car in my street. I want it removed straight away.
You need to report this incident to the Police. If the car has already been reported to Environmental Health it will be removed as quickly as the law allows.
My car has gone from where I left it – have the Council taken it ?
You need to phone Environmental Health on (01495) 355076. We will have records of all the vehicles removed.
My car has had a legal notice placed on it and it is not abandoned.
Please phone Environmental Health on (01495) 355076 to claim the vehicle.
There is a car on my street with a legal notice on it. Can I have it or some parts off it once the notice has expired?
No. This vehicle is still owned by some one or it will become the property of the Council once it is removed. You need to contact a registered scrap dealer for such parts.
I reported an abandoned vehicle and a notice was placed on it but it has been ripped off?
This is OK. A photograph was taken of the vehicle with the notice on and the officer does not need to place another notice on the vehicle.
What will happen following my complaint?
An officer will visit the vehicle. If he decides it is abandoned then he will either remove it straight away if he feels it is of value or he will place a legal notice on the vehicle giving the owner 24 hours to claim the vehicle. If it is not removed/claimed within 24 hours then the council will remove and destroy the vehicle.
How long will it take to remove this vehicle?
We aim to remove all vehicles within ten days of the complaint being made, although most are removed more quickly.
