Blaenau Gwent Council Service Information – Christmas/New Year

Council Services in Blaenau Gwent - Christmas 2010 and New Year 2011

Winter maintenance and gritting

Until our salt stocks are significantly replenished we will continue to only grit the main pre-determined routes only.
This is about 48 per cent of the road network in Blaenau Gwent.

We can still help out in exceptional circumstances such as emergencies, funerals and essential hospital appointments for treatment such as dialysis. Please call 01495 311556 for emergency assistance over the Christmas/New Year period. Hospital appointments will be checked with the Local Health Board.

Salt bins are being restocked on a strict priority basis only. We would remind people that this salt is for use on public footpaths and highways only – not on private property such as garden paths or driveways.

In the event of any more snow, teams will be helping with snow clearance in town centres and around residential homes.

Remember, you can clear snow from your own path or street. Follow the ‘snow code’ - http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Nl1/Newsroom/DG191868

Refuse and Recycling collections

All refuse and recycling collections will remain on the same day over the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

Don’t forget to put all your Christmas cards and wrapping paper in the clear recycling sacks and any leftover food in the green kitchen caddies.

If you have decided on a real tree this Christmas – remember this can be recycled too. When the festivities are over and your tree has been taken down contact C2BG from January 4th on 01495 311556 to arrange a collection.

Vulnerable and older people

Care services for elderly and vulnerable people – such as home care and meals on wheels - will continue over the Christmas/New Year period.

If you have any concerns about any social care services please call 01495 315700.
Please remember to keep an eye on elderly and vulnerable neighbours in your community – and help out where you can.
