The new and improved recycling and waste collection service from Blaenau Gwent Council has been well received by many householders.
Recycling rates are up across the county borough – especially in the areas where new, free wheeled bins have been delivered.
Blaenau Gwent Council offers householders choice and options for wheeled bins.
Bins are available in two sizes.
There is no need to wheel bins up and down steps on collection days. Householders can use bins just for storing black bags of waste and then they can put out the bags as they have always done.
Plus, local people don’t have to have a wheeled bin at all.
Most people have taken up the opportunity to use a wheeled bin - they have been delivered to over 15,000 households so far.
In communities where wheeled bins have already gone out – including many parts of Tredegar and Ebbw Vale - recycling rates have already gone up.
As part of the new service recycling and food waste is collected from households every week. Waste is collected on alternate weeks.
Coun Keith Barnes, Blaenau Gwent Council’s Executive Member for the Environment said:
“We all need to work together if we are to meet the tough recycling targets set by Government and avoid financial penalties.”
