Five new local nature reserves in Blaenau Gwent
24 June 2009
Five areas of natural beauty in Blaenau Gwent have won Local Nature Reserve status from the Countryside Council for Wales.
Local Nature Reserves (LNRs) are green spaces that are easily accessible. They are for local people to enjoy and they help protect nature close to housing.
Blaenau Gwent Council worked with voluntary organisations to set up areas at Beaufort Hills Pond and Woodland, Cwmtillery Lakes, Parc Bryn Bach, Parc Nant y Waun and Sirhowy Hill Woodlands and Cardiff Pond.
Coun Don Wilcox, the Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, said:
“We’re very proud of Blaenau Gwent’s great hills and valleys. These five green spaces of outstanding natural beauty on our doorstep – to be enjoyed by the young and old alike.”
